Texas Abandoned Vehicles Defined
In the state of Texas a vehicle is considered to be abandoned if the vehicle meets any one or combination of the following conditions:
- The vehicle is more than five years old and inoperable.
- The vehicle is more than five years old and is illegally parked on public property for more than 48 hours.
- Remained on private property without the consent of the property owner or person in charge for more than 48 hours.
- It has been left unattended on the right-of-way of a county, state, or federal highway for more than 48 hours.
- It has been left unattended for more than 24 hours in the obstruction of traffic on the right-of-way of a turnpike project constructed and maintained by the Texas Turnpike Authority division of the Texas Department of Transportation, or a controlled-access highway.
