Charles invented the chuck wagon in 1866 as a way to keep his drivers fed from Texas as they traveled North. The wagon was used as a portable cowboy kitchen wagon whenever on the cattle trail by using an army surplus Studebaker wagon which many consider the very first food truck.
Armstrong City, known as Washburn, was changed and renamed to Claude in 1890 in honor of Claude Ayers, a railroad engineer who brought the first Fort Worth & Denver passenger train to town. When you are visiting the city of Wayside, Tx you will find a popular Ranch built-in 1965 called “The Hidden Falls Ranch.” This place offers a fun summer camp for children and has so much to see and do here.
Armstrong County is the best of the great country living with frequent visitors passing through on Hwy 287 and 207. It is near Amarillo and it's sure to have more and more people on the road, especially during traveling seasons and holidays.
