Santa Fe was originally three different towns that sprung up along the newly created Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway that was built in 1877. Nearly one-hundred years later the neighboring and growing community of Hitchcock would try to annex parts of these towns. Facing annexation they would unanimously vote to incorporate into a single city that would take the railways name and become Santa Fe. In a bit of irony, the city of Santa Fe has actually grown to twice the size of its once big brother.
