Lucky Driver Wins Upside Down
Lucky Driver Wins Upside Down
Ever get too deep into car videos on the internet and remember that racing is super exciting? You should.
Here’s one for you where a driver wins a race upside down. Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself.
The Macau race erupted in chaos and excitement when driver Laurens Vanthoor flipped over on the roof of his car and won the race. His car clipped an inside wall and sent him flying into the outside wall that followed. That slam flipped his car right over and Vanthoor was sent sparking along the track upside down. The “Red” flagged popped out as the race car driver escaped the car unharmed.
This lucky driver was not the only contestant to have a run in with the track. Ricky Capo also took a turn into some trouble which meant there were some safety laps. After the restart of the race, it took about two laps for Vanthoor to flip over. After all the tension of a cautious debris clean up, the final lap was a shock.
Vanthoor not only walked away without harm, he was awarded first place. With all of the delays, the race was actually calculated rather than measured with a standard order. Without sufficient time for a proper restart of the race and the amount that Vanthoor had been ahead, the judges made that call.
There is the question of whether or not the guy really won the race because the red flags were out as soon as he flipped. “It’s a strange way to win such a big race,” is how the driver described it himself. What is not in question is how incredibly cool it looked!
