Texas Crash Related Deaths - 7 Ways to Avoid Collisions
Traffic collisions are often caused by one or more drivers making an error on the roadway. Many of these accidents are completely avoidable and here are seven such instances where you can completely avoid collisions with a little knowledge and precaution:
- Intersection Errors: Look around carefully and always proceed with caution into an intersection, even if you have the right of way.
- Inattention: Pay close attention to your own driving, other drivers, pedestrians, and road conditions.
- Following Too Close: Depending on the speed you're moving and the roadway conditions, maintain a 2-second or more following distance from the car in front of you. The faster you're moving and the worse the conditions are, the more distance and time you should put between you and the vehicle in front of you.
- Vehicle Malfunction: Have regular checkups, particularly of wiper fluid, brakes, and tires. Also, replace wiper blades whenever they are worn.
- Dangerous Roads: Ice, snow, fog, and rain conditions require slower speeds and much greater caution.
- Unsafe Speeds: Excessive speed reduces reaction time and greatly increases impact and injuries.
- Improper Lane Changes: Before you change lanes, check all of your mirrors, and signal at least 100 feet before making a lane change.
