Zavala County is the 158th most populated county in Texas. This county was created in 1858 and then later organized in 1884. This county was named after Lorenzo de Zavala born October 14, 1788, and died on November 15, 1836. There are 4 cities located within this county; Batesville, La Pryor, Las Colonias, and Crystal City. Crystal City is the largest of them all and founded in 1907. Crystal City, TX is the Spinach Capital of the World. The very first spinach festival took place in 1936, during WW II. The festival was suspended and picked back up in 1982. In front of Crystal City, City Hall stands a statue of Popeye.
